On a calm morning in March 2021, I visited Winthrop Beach at Cottage Hill, where many sets of small swells were rolling in. I arrived when it was dark, but during the transition from dawn to sunrise, and shot the crescent moon at 400mm first. Around the time I was done with the moon, the water was looking ideal, so I spent around 15 mins shooting as many pans as possible at 100mm. At that point the sky on the horizon was optimal, so I took frames of that as well at 100mm, bracketing in a vertical fashion to achieve extra height. To create this image, I merged the optimal shots of the various elements of the scene together in post process, capturing the feeling of the entire transition from dawn to sunrise that morning.
