Hampton Beach New Hampshire Sunrise over Sea Rocks and Boar’s Head

This is the north end of Hampton Beach about an hour after low tide, some pretty cool rocks out there. The outcropping of land on the left side of the horizon is known as Boar’s Head and has some historical significance for the town of Hampton, and perhaps these rocks in the foreground are a part of it.

As described by geologist Charles H. Hitchcock in the Geology of New Hampshire, Great Boar's Head is a lenticular moraine or drumlin, an elongated deposit left by a glacier, perhaps one million years ago. Hitchcock suggested that some of the rocks found around the Head may have come from as far away as the Ossipee Mountains, about 60 miles northwest of Hampton Beach.
